2020 Junior Season Update

July 31, 2020

This year has presented a unique challenge for our whole community. The rapidly changing environment in which we are trying to run a hockey competition has resulted in uncertainty for all players, coaches, parents, team managers and club organisers.

We have closely followed all official communications and particularly the Premier’s announcement on July 30 regarding the updated circumstances for the ‘Geelong corridor’. While official guidelines still allow community sport in regional Victoria, we are very aware of the challenging situation which the Geelong community is currently facing in regard to daily advice issued by DHHS.

Given the uncertainty that surrounds the level of transmission within the ‘Geelong corridor’, and the increased restrictions being placed on our community, Geelong Hockey Association needs to ensure the most prudent steps are taken to ensure the safety of all members of the Geelong hockey community.

Therefore the GHA Executive in consultation with the Competition Committee have suspended the Round 3 junior competitions for August 1 and 2, 2020.

We have contacted Hockey Victoria to determine any potential impacts to the season, however there are currently no further guidelines for regional hockey competitions.

As a close-knit community of passionate hockey fans and a city with strong connections in the wider regional area, we need to ensure we provide the most secure environment we can. Therefore the conduct of the remainder of the 2020 competition will be reviewed next week, pending further information received from Hockey Victoria and Sport and Recreation Victoria.

Until then, stay safe.
