Hockey Roadshows Are Back!

May 7, 2021

The second round of Hockey Roadshows conducted by Geelong Hockey Association is about to start in local primary schools. We have requests from 10 more schools who would like to host a hockey program for their students.

As hockey is one of the minor sports, many families may not know much about it. Conducting hockey sessions for primary students gives the children a chance to experience hockey and learn more about the skills of the game.  The Roadshow sessions are provided to the school free of charge, with all equipment supplied.

Thanks to the support of Viva Energy Australia, there is some funding available to reimburse costs for the coaches who lead the sessions.

If you would like to help with this very important project, please contact Claire Barnes ph 0417 015130 or Peter Stuart ph 0417 280118.

Hockey Roadshow program:

  • Tuesday May 11 – Covenant College, Bell Post Hill
  • Wednesday May 12, Thursday May 13 – Montpellier Primary School, Highton
  • Tuesday May 18 – Newtown Primary School, Newtown
  • Wednesday May 19 – St Aloysius Primary School, Queenscliff

At the conclusion of the Roadshow program, students are invited to continue their hockey participation by joining a Hookin2Hockey program. The Hookin2Hockey program is aimed at children aged 5 to 10, with a 6 week program providing the opportunity to learn the basic skills of hockey, develop fundamental motor skills and make friends all while beginning a lifelong love of hockey!

Attendance at your first session of the Hookin2Hockey program is free. Equipment is provided for use during the program, although participants may choose to buy their own pack (stick, ball, shinguards) for $35 (plus postage). The registration fee of $30 provides insurance cover until December 31, 2021, and Hockey Victoria membership for the 2021 year.

There are currently 2 Hookin2Hockey programs available.
