Strong Junior Performances in 2021

August 25, 2021

The 2021 hockey season has again been interrupted by COVID but our junior members have made the most of the opportunities they have been given. There have been some excellent performances by all teams participating at Hockey Victoria regional and metropolitan levels.

The Junior State Championships in July saw 31 members from Geelong participatinga s players in the Western Wildcats and Red Devils teams, with a further 3 officials contributing. The teams came home with 2 Gold and 1 Bronze medal, an excellent effort.

The Hockey Victoria metropolitan competition has been severely impacted by COVID, with an uncertain finish to the season looming for the Hockey Geelong Sharks junior teams.

After the last completed round, the HG Sharks were 2nd on the ladder in the U16 Boys Shield B competition, with 6 wins and 1 loss – a successful showing with great commitment from all the team. Thanks to the coach and manager, Luke Hatton and Chris Lorenzen, for their efforts.

Well done to all the players, the coaches, team managers, umpires – and the parents for their support and encouragement. The prospect of a better year (surely!!)  in 2022 gives us hope for the future of our players and for the hockey community in Geelong.
