Hall of Fame Inductees

August 1, 2024

Congratulations to Glenn O’Shannessy and Debbi O’Shannessy who have made it a family affair, with both being inducted into the Geelong Hockey Association Hall of Fame.

Glenn O’Shannessy
On Saturday 27 th July Glenn O’Shannessy was inducted into the Geelong Hockey Association’s Hall of Fame.

In front of his current team, the Pennant C Sharks, Glenn heard of his many achievements and contributions to hockey locally, beyond Geelong and interstate. Glenn commenced hockey aged nine and soon developed his skills. He was and is, a talented tennis player and he combined both sports for some time. Glenn has played for the Geelong Jaguars Hockey Club as well as Corio, Torquay and the Sharks.

Glenn has consistently played at the highest standard and in recent years represented his state. He has also coached at every opportunity and enjoys passing on his tactical knowledge of the game to others. Glenn has a particular skill in mentoring the younger players and there are many who are better for this input.

We congratulate Glenn on being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Debbi O’Shannessy

On the same day as her son, Debbi was also inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Debbi was first a netballer but while at Norlane High School she was introduced to hockey and that connection has never left her. Debbi played with the Geelong Hockey Club and upon leaving for Melbourne to complete her nursing degree, she joined Brunswick Hockey Club.

She was a member of the famous Geelong Hockey Club team which included such names as the Davies sisters, all four of them. This side dominated the Geelong hockey scene for many years. When the annual representative side was named it was the Geelong side plus Peta Hanley from Newtown.

Debbi has played for many decades and is still a competitive player participating in the Masters arena. She travels weekly for her games and will participate in national championships near and far.

We congratulate Debbi on this incredible achievement. We are thrilled to have our first mother and son inducted.
