The Geelong Hockey Association (GHA) is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Canteen Manager to oversee the operation of our fully-equipped canteen. This is a seasonal role, serving our 735 members and their families during the winter hockey season (April to September). The canteen is a card-only facility (electronic payments only).

Position Duration:  March 2025 (or earlier due to the redevelopment of Stead Park) to September 2025

Position Overview:
The Canteen Manager will be responsible for the daily operations of the canteen, including food preparation, stock management, volunteer supervision and ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the facility. The position requires availability on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays, with potential shifts on Thursday evenings by mutual agreement.

Proposed Working Hours
Friday evenings: 5.30pm to 9.30pm.
Saturdays: 7.30am to 5.00pm.
Sundays: 12.00pm to 4.00pm.

Hours may vary based on the number of games and a fluctuating roster but will remain consistent over a fortnight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation, handling and serving of food on-site
  • Receive and check ordered baked goods on a Saturday morning
  • Manage stock purchases using the GHA credit card, and track inventory (own vehicle preferred). Preference for the Canteen Manager to purchase inventory during the week
  • Supervise and coordinate volunteers working in the canteen
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are maintained
  • Keep accurate records in accordance with council regulations
  • Track weekly food excess and ensure proper disposal or reuse
  • Adhere to food safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Working With Children’s Check (WWCC)
  • Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) certificate
  • Safe Food Handling certificate.

Additional Requirements
The successful candidate will be engaged as an independent contractor (with their own ABN) and will be responsible for their own tax, insurance and other associated costs. A contract of employment shall be signed by both parties.
