Coaching – the Bigger Picture; by Andrew Smith

Andrew Smith, known to most as Smitty, presented to about 40 people in the Clubrooms at Stead Park on Wednesday night.

His presentation was engaging, insightful and beneficial for all levels of coaches. His stories of the various groups he has coached, particularly the HCM boys most recently, were interesting and occasionally made us laugh.

We all managed to take away some great ideas to incorporate into our coaching, from practical physical things to relationships with our players, to understanding how to get the best out of individuals. We learnt that to value the skills of the individual is just as important as valuing every player’s contribution to the team goals and outcomes.
