Important information here for all members about the Stead Park redevelopment and the altered access to pitch 2.

Please make sure to read and share with your club members.

We still have access to the current pavilion and the canteen for summer hockey competitions. However it is essential that any use of the pitch or the pavilion facilities for club purposes other than Hockey Geelong competitions is pre-booked and pre-approved.

Friday September 19 was a historic Day for the Stead Park Redevelopment, with the “sod turning” marking the official commencement of the redevelopment works.

The ceremony was attended by our local State Member, Ella George who has been very supportive of hockey and of our plans for the location of the new pavilion between the two fields.

The proceedings were opened by Melinda Kennedy of the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation who presented the Welcome To Country.

We appreciated the messages shared by Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM, City of Greater Geelong; David Bourke, General Manager Hockey Operations, Hockey Victoria; and the support provided by representatives from Development Victoria, City of Greater Geelong Council and Sport & Recreation Victoria.

Thanks to the large group of young players and their families who attended as our local club representatives.

The contractor is Fairbrother Construction, a local firm who have a fine reputation.

Congratulations Graeme! 👏

A big congratulations to Hockey Geelong President, Graeme Dent, who has been named Hockey Victoria’s Community Administrator of the Year at the recent Hockey Victoria Awards Night.

Graeme has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to drive the Stead Park redevelopment, spending many hours in meetings and engaging with many parties to ensure the project’s success. His commitment doesn’t stop there; whether it’s maintenance, the canteen, or supporting the local competition or the Sharks program, Graeme is always giving his time and energy to hockey.

Graeme’s efforts extend far beyond our association. He has built a relationship with Doncaster in England, opening doors for our players to experience hockey overseas, secured sponsorships to strengthen Hockey Geelong, and supported the Hockey Geelong Membership Card that supports both local clubs and junior development. His passion, generosity, and leadership are tireless, and this award is a well-deserved recognition of all he has done.

On behalf of Hockey Geelong, congratulations Graeme and thank you!

It was with great excitement that Hockey Geelong heard of the Over 50 NW Men’s Masters premiership last Wednesday week.

This team had a marvelous season being undefeated after 18 rounds with 13 wins, three draws and two byes. Finishing top allowed Geelong to play Brunswick who finished fourth, in the first final. That result was a 3-0 win and sent a clear message to the competition that Geelong was the team to beat. This resulted in Geelong being matched with Footscray in the Grand Final at Essendon.

A good following from Geelong were present and were very vocal encouraging their local heroes. They witnessed the tactical genius of Warren Harding and the well drilled team who played probably their best game for the year. The final score was a 3-1 win to Geelong with the scorers being Shane Werner who has the ability to be in the right space at the right time. Glenn (Shaggy) O’Shannessy who is Mr. Reliable rattled the backboards with his normal flair. The final goal was scored by the seagull John Alonso who has been cherry picking such goals for over thirty years.

It was a great season for all and we need to recognise the efforts of Warren Harding who undertook to roles of recruiting, mediation, treasurer, coach and manager. We hear this team has already commenced their preseason for the 2026.

Well done boys.
