2020 Hockey Season Commences

Update – June 16, 2020

Following revision of the Government and health regulations and advice from Hockey Victoria, we are very pleased to announce the following changes to training and competition procedures.

  • As from June 22, junior teams may commence full-contact training.
  • As from July 13, senior teams may commence full-contact training.
  • The Geelong Hockey Association Junior competitions will commence on July 18, as previously advised, and finish on September 19/20.
  • The Geelong Hockey Association Senior competitions will commence on July 25. Clubs will be consulted to determine the preferred finishing date and conduct of finals or otherwise.

The Geelong Hockey Association proposes to commence the 2020 season for the local competition on July 18/19, with the proviso that health guidelines allow a return to competition at this date.

The season will conclude for junior teams on September 19/20, making 10 rounds in total. Due to the alteration to the 2020 season, there will be no finals for junior teams this year. The Premiership will be awarded to the team which finishes the season on top of the ladder in their competition.

Senior competitions will also play 10 rounds, with the last round on September 19/20. Clubs are asked to canvass their members regarding the possibility of playing extra weeks to include finals.

Players from the age of 3 to 65+ will find a competition to suit them. Beginners and experienced players are most welcome. We look forward to seeing lots of teams and players participating, and an enjoyable year of hockey, even though it may be shorter than usual.
