Ricky Burns Testimonial Match
The Burns Family have had a long association with the Geelong Hockey Association, hence the ‘Burns Family End’ sign on Pitch 1 at Stead Park
The Geelong Hockey community is greatly saddened to hear that Ricky Burns has passed away, after a long battle with ill health. The associated financial costs of significant health challenges can add greatly to the stressful situation for the whole family.
Ricky Burns was a Life Member of both the Corio Hockey Club and the Geelong Hockey Association, having given a huge amount to both of these organisations and always with enthusiasm and great commitment.
Those people who have played hockey with and against Ricky Burns know that he had a huge heart and desire to win. He has always been admired for these qualities, as well as his friendliness and interest in all. His contribution to this sport and to his community cannot be understated.
Corio Hockey Club, with the support of the Geelong Hockey Association, is hosting a Testimonial Match on Saturday July 10 to raise funds to support Ricky’s family. COVID restrictions have twice forced the postponement of this event, but our support for the Burns family is needed more than ever.
The program for the day will include:
- the Testimonial match at 11.15 am.
- BBQ, raffle and auction
Past and present members of the Corio Hockey Club and the Geelong Hockey Association are invited to participate in the day, whether as a player or as a supporter.
A GoFundMe page has been set up, and any donations you care to make would be gratefully received. Please contribute what you can to help the Burns family manage the financial challenges and let them know how loved they are in our community.
Please contact Geoff Carlisle if you have any enquiries or would like to offer your help.
