Players Wanted for 60+ Men’s team

Dear fellow hockey player (current, former or wannabe)

Some of us older local players have been playing O60 Masters with Melbourne clubs in recent winter seasons. It would be great to be able to play home games if we can form a team.

Do we have enough to field a Geelong Over 60’s team in the metropolitan winter competition for 2026? Matches are played on Wednesday nights as are the O50’s and women O35 on a home and away basis.

Eligibility: year of birth 1966 or earlier, although there is allowance for some underage players in a team.

🏑 Maybe you have retired from hockey,
🏑 Wouldn’t mind an extra run on a Wednesday night
🏑 Know somebody who would like to play.

Hockey Geelong President Graeme Dent was in Torquay last week to proudly celebrate the official launch and opening of our new Torquay pitch.

While on site, Graeme caught up with several familiar faces — Simon Butterly from @hockeyaustraliaofficial, along with Andrew Skillern and @David Bourke from @hockeyvictoriaofficial.

It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved and to share in the collective pride around a facility that will deliver lasting benefits for hockey across the Surf Coast and Geelong region.

The official opening of Torquay’s new hockey pitch, funded through the $550 million Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, features a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly Poligras Platinum World Cup synthetic surface, 500 lux LED lighting, electronic scoreboard, sheltered seating and a new car park.

The pitch has been made even more special thanks to local Wadawurrung artist Billy-Jay (BJ) O’Toole, who created a specially-designed artwork stitched into the hockey pitch surface.

His design incorporates handprints as a symbol of connection and togetherness between the players, with a ‘U’ between spears and boomerangs representing the strength of the members of the club where all are welcome.

The new hockey facility will also enable summer competition games to be scheduled from early-2026 for Hockey Geelong while Stead Park in Corio is being upgraded.

Hockey Geelong wishes everyone in our community a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.

Hope you all have time to relax and enjoy time with family and loved ones, and that next year brings all that you want.

Next year will be an exciting one with the redevelopment at Stead Park progressing well. Thanks to the stakeholders in Development Victoria, City of Greater Geelong, Sport and Recreation Victoria and the State Government for their cooperation and support.

Your views about how we “open” the new facility and how the 2026 season might be structured are welcome.
