On Tuesday, 24th June Hockey Geelong executive hosted representatives from each club for a dinner at the Shell Club.

It was a good opportunity for officials from the clubs to mix socially with others. It was also a chance for our executive to spend time with those from the clubs to hear of their success and challenges.

It was a well received evening and we are sure the club officials felt valued. The officials from each club are the ones that keep our local competition thriving.

It was also an opportunity for Hockey Geelong to support the Shell Club who has become a valued sponsor.

All clubs are reminded that teams are rostered to provide 1 volunteer to assist in the canteen at Stead Park when they are playing on Pitch 1.

Junior teams playing on pitch 1 provide one volunteer per team whilst the team is playing.

Senior teams playing on pitch 1 provide one volunteer from each team after their game.

The canteen provides a great service to the hockey community, but the work cannot be done by just one person.

Hockey Geelong were very pleased to have Premier League umpire, Scott O’Reilly on Saturday, 21st June present an umpiring session at Stead Park.

Scott is a local and his family has a long connection with Hockey Geelong.

He met many of our local umpires before and after the Premier League game he officiated. The group then met in the office and were able to ask Scott about the game and how he approaches such games.

There were many questions about how one develops their umpiring and Scott inspired those present to further develop their passion. One take away was Scott emphasising building a relationship between umpires and players along with being comfortable and confident to have such a conversation.

We look forward to any further sessions that Scott may present and thank him for his time.
