Exciting Progress on the Geelong Hockey Centre Redevelopment

As everyone who visits Stead Park will see, the pavilion is progressing daily. Wednesday saw the installation of the four light towers. These lights will allow games to be televised on Seven Plus as well as streaming other games at Stead Park.

The windows are in place and you can see the boardroom window as one looks from the clubhouse. The roof is in place as are the solar panels which will help with our recurring costs. The commercial kitchen will be all electric.

The Festival of Hockey will be held from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October, highlighted by a Celebration Dinner on Saturday 24 October from 7.00pm.

On the Saturday and Sunday there will be a series of games with time slots available to clubs to organise games of their choosing.

Newtown Hockey Club and the Men`s 60+ Masters team are keen to take advantage of their allotted time. Is your club planning to folow suit?

Thanks to everyone for your understanding and for putting up with the difficult circumstances at Stead Park, even during our finals series. We are almost there and there are exciting times are ahead!

Last Friday, it was announced that HC Melbourne will play home fixtures at Stead Park under a three-year agreement commencing in 2027, with Geelong officially named as the club`s regional home.

Following the redevelopment of Stead Park, the venue will become a premier destination for high-performance hockey in our region.

From 2027 to 2029, Geelong will host one HC Melbourne home fixture each season for both the men`s and women`s teams, bringing elite-level hockey to our community. This is a fantastic opportunity for Hockey Geelong supporters to experience the highest standard of the game, while also introducing new audiences to hockey.

This exciting announcement is the result of a strong partnership between the City of Greater Geelong and Hockey Victoria.

Hockey Geelong will be exiting from our Stead Park pavilion slightly earlier than anticipated and will now be vacating by Wednesday 13 August.

As a result Stead Park will be operating using temporary facilities from the 14 August through to the project completion date of 30 September. These temporary facilities will include toilets and first-aid but not changing rooms.

The early vacate date will enable smooth delivery of the project, best outcomes for the new precinct and ensure the completion date of 30 September is achieved.

While this will impact the end of our season I am sure you are seeing an amazing facility evolving before your eyes. Please contact the Secretary or your club if you have any questions.
