Hockey Victoria Regional Working Group

The HV Regional Working Group met via zoom on 4 th July, 2024. This group meets with the HV Regional Manager Jason La Rocca and HV CEO Andrew Skillern.

Discussion points were:

1. CEO Update

• HV has adopted the National Integrity Framework.
• HV has been in discussions with Singapore for a greater connection with Melbourne One pushing into Asia. Exciting developments have occurred.
• There is a GHA Junior Sharks representative required. We need to appoint one.
• There are two forums coming up in the Victoria League Forum and the Victorian Regional Forum. GHA needs to attend both.
• Andrew saw their biggest challenges are a decrease in participation numbers, additional revenue sources and the increased competition against other sports.

2. Victorian Country Teams

• Selection was discussed and there were a variety of views. The common view from the regions was the fact that one does not have to participate in the championships to gain state selection and this has caused lower participation numbers.
• HV has reviewed the process of players paying for their state selection prior to departure or at least, an having an agreed payment plan.
• I spoke to the rescheduling of games due the state team games and being away from the regular local competition.

In the recent EOI survey in which we participated, of the ten responses received, details were:

• Umpire Coaching Development was 9 out of 10 responses
• Grant Application Writing was 7 out of 10
• Sponsorship 7 out of 10
• Strategic Planning 6 out of 10
• Social Media 3 out of 10.

The point was noted that the game of hockey is declining in the regions. There is work for us all.
