The Hockey Victoria Stand Out Cup is an annual event held to show support for the LGBTIQ+ community and to continue to foster a game for all, for life.
The 2023 Stand Out Cup was held on Sunday February 26, with Geelong Hockey Association entering two teams to show their support and celebrating inclusivity and diversity in hockey.
43 teams entered the competition with seriousness levels ranging from A – C grade with a competition catering to all skill levels. The team spirit also ranged from full fledged banana and Minion costumes to the more sedate Association representative gear. We were all out there in colours supporting teammates to show that all people are welcome to be a part of our hockey community.
Our B grade team held their own showing their skills in defensive prowess and attacking cunning. Our A grade team…. not so much prowess… but lots of 80’s style fluoro. If there was an attendance award… we would have won it, with smiles on our faces.
