Geelong Hockey Association Forum

📅    Tuesday 29 th October, 2024 Stead Park

⌚     From 7.00pm.

Drinks and nibbles provided.

This is a very important gathering and we are asking that each club will send at least two representatives. We shall be inviting a range of people like Life Members and those who have had significant input in the past.

We are at the point where we need to discuss issues that will have a huge bearing on our future as a sport in our region. Decisions shall be made and we need your input and due consideration as well as your support.

The forum shall be in three parts:
1. A review of the season as far as what went well and areas for improvement.
2. Update on the redevelopment of Stead Park and Torquay.
3. Launch of Project 1200. This is an aspirational and inclusive project.

In 2016 the GHA had just over 1,200 playing members. In 2024 we had just over 750. The problem is not just recruiting but also retention. Roughly speaking we gain about 170 players per year but lose about 200. Most are from the 14 to 17 age bracket.

How do we change this?

If we are to make the most of our new facilities we need to grow the game.

  • How do we do that?
  • Who does it?
  • What is the plan?

Like so many things the answer lies in many solutions and not just one.

At the conclusion of the evening we would like to have a clear plan going forward.

Please place the date and time in your calendar and you will receive a reminder.

Your presence is vital.

Best wishes
Graeme Dent
GHA President
