Sod Turn
Friday 19 th September marked the “sod turning” at Stead Park for the commencement of the redevelopment. It is now official, works shall begin. This is the biggest investment in hockey in Geelong since the game commenced in 1912.
On Friday we had our local State Member in Ella George who has been very supportive of Hockey Geelong and of having the two-story pavilion in a central location.
The proceedings were opened by Melinda Kennedy of the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation who presented the Welcome To Country.
Also, present were:
- Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM from the City of Greater Geelong
- David Bourke, General Manager Hockey Operations, Hockey Victoria
- Representatives from Development Victoria, City of Greater Geelong Council and Sport & Recreation Victoria.
We were also joined by a large group of our young players and their families as our local club representatives.
Hockey Geelong appreciated all of the above groups of people for attending.
The contractor is Fairbrother Construction, a local firm who has an office in Pakington Street, Geelong West. They have a fine reputation.
It was a significant day for Hockey Geelong and we thank all those who were in attendance.

President Hockey Geelong
