In every hockey game, you need two umpires out there — they’re essential to making sure the game happens at all.
In field hockey, two umpires share the job of watching the whole field, calling fouls, keeping score and making sure the match is fair and safe for everyone. They make the calls using their whistles and hand signals, keep the game flowing, and help sort things out so players, coaches and spectators can just enjoy the game.
If you or someone you know would love to umpire, or if you’d like to know more as a parent, coach or spectator, please send John Larkins an email at [email protected] — we’d love to hear from you!
