Help Hockey Come Back Strongly

The COVID-19 situation has significantly altered the sporting season for many organisations and sports, including hockey. A return to hockey is imminent, but it is acknowledged that there are barriers which may impact on the participation of our usual members – health concerns, cost, altered format of the season. The Geelong Hockey Association would like to help clubs and hockey come back strongly in 2020, and continue to prosper in 2021 and into the future.

There are many organisations working to support sport in this unusual time, and clubs are encouraged to take advantage of the resources available. Following is a list of some of the support and resources provided.

Australian Sports Foundation

The ASF notes that the financial impact of COVID-19 is devastating for Australian sport, and many sports clubs may not survive. Community and club sports often rely on membership fees and local sponsorships to keep everything operating. The Australian Sports Foundation’s role is to raise money for sport, and the organisation is launching a national campaign to help community clubs and organisations access funds to recover, and they are seeking help from grassroots clubs.

The ASF invites clubs to complete the survey to understand the impact on your club, and the funding needed to help it recover. Currently, over 1800 clubs have completed the survey, but there are tens-of-thousands more out there who have not yet done so, and who may miss out on the funding and support the ASF is able to generate. To those involved in community sport across Australia, the ASF wants to know who you are, hear your story, and go into bat for community sport.
