Junior Country Championships Medals

Congratulations and thank you to players, coaches, team managers and umpires who were part of the 6 Geelong Hockey Association teams which played in the Victorian Junior Country Championships on May 20 & 21. It was a fantastic effort from all, highlighted by great organisation and enthusiasm from everyone. Special thanks to the parents whose support is essential in getting our players to training and to the tournament in Melbourne.

The weekend saw the GHA teams bring home one Silver and 2 Bronze medals for the 2023 Championships. There were some very close matches throughout the tournament, with all teams giving 100% for every game.

Silver medal.

U15 Girls played at the Greensborough Hockey Centre, with Goulburn Valley running out winners 3-1 in the Gold medal match.
The team finished the pool games with 1 win (W)  1 loss (L) and 3 draws (D), plus a win in the 08:30am Sunday morning shootout with Ballarat to determine first place in Pool A prior to semifinals.

Bronze medal.

U18 Boys played at Melbourne Sports Centre Parkville.  The team did not lose a match, with 3 wins and 3 draws, and finished strongly to claim the Bronze medal 4-0 against Glenelg.
Thanks to Cailean Thomas from West Gippsland, who stepped in as goalkeeper when Tucker Kooloos was injured on the first day. Jye Walters took Tucker’s place in subsequent matches, maintaining the strong defence of the Geelong team.

Bronze medal.

U13 Boys played at Essendon Hockey Centre, with 4 wins and 2 losses. The team claimed the Bronze medal with a 1-0 win against Glenelg.
