Container Deposit Scheme – Bring Us Your Cans

April 24, 2024

Geelong Hockey Association is part of the Victorian Government Container Deposit Scheme.

Victorians use more than 3 billion drink containers every year. Sadly, many are not recycled, ending up in landfill and as litter in local communities. The scheme will contribute to Victoria’s target of diverting 80% of all material away from landfill by 2030.

Participation in the CDS also provides benefits for the Association, with 10 cents refunded for each container which is recycled.  This could add up to significant income which can be spent on development and recruitment initiatives within the Geelong hockey community.

What can be returned?

Most aluminium, glass, plastic and liquid paperboard (carton) drink containers between 150mL and 3 litres are eligible. You can keep the lids on, as they are recycled too. Remember not to crush the cans and bottles please!

Look for the 10c mark on the drink container label. It is often located near the barcode.

Where to deposit

There are 4 recycle bins are in place at Stead Park for you to deposit your containers. This will include items you purchase at Stead Park, but feel free to bring any containers you have collected at home to add to the GHA collection.

Thanks to Nick Ayerbe for constructing and providing the recycling bins.
