Australian Masters Championships

 

Congratulations to the large contingent of Geelong players who recently represented Victoria at the Australian Masters Championships.

The Women’s tournament was held in Sydney from June 29 to July 6, while the men’s tournament was played in Hobart from July 12 to July 27.

The GHA wishes to congratulate all the State Representatives on their achievements. It was very good to hear of the successes and the overall enjoyment. Many were in Tasmania and enjoyed their time there.

  • Women’s 35+ – Jane Young – finished 5th.
  • Women’s 40+ – Cassandra Calder – finished equal 5th
  • Men’s 40+ Div 1 – Steve Macumber (playing coach), Tom Griffin, Andrew Purcell (Captain) – finished with Gold medal
  • Men’s 45+ Div 1 – Glenn O’Shannessy – finished with Gold medal
  • Women’s 50+ – Rosana Gonzalez, Kath Forsyth, Marieke De Ruitjer – finished 4th
  • Women’s 55+ – Ali O’Reilley – finished with Bronze
  • Men’s 55+ Div 2 – Stewart Humphries, Warren Harding (Captain), Neil Davenport, Justin Nelson – finished with Bronze
  • Men’s 60+ Div 1 – Phil Frost, Andrew Crowley – finished with Silver
  • Women’s 65+ – assistant coach Lyn Tout, finished with Silver
  • Women’s 70+ – Lyn Tout (playing coach) – finished with Silver

Andrew Crowley of Torquay strained his hamstring early and still played, camping in the circle scoring goals. Never get between Andrew and a goal!

Tom Griffin was enthusiastic about his team’s gold medal. Well done to Tom and the team.

 

Australian Country Championships

 

The Senior State Country teams are playing at the moment and we wish them all the best. The women have many representatives and many familiar names in the teams as well as the Coach in Tammy Hansford and Manager Gillian Armstead.

  • Women’s team – Alice Arnold, Sophie Collings, Ashlee Craig, Anya Dreyer, Emma Hatton, Chelsie Hird, Caitlin Philpott, Kahlua Smart, Rhea Sutton, Tammy Hansford (Coach), Gillian Armstead (Manager).
  • Men’s team – Ewan Gonzalez Wightman, Jayden Gulson, Lachlan Hansford, Luke Hatton, Nathan McBain, Cale Rout, Jayden Schram, Jye Walters, Jake Whitford, Paul Schram (Coach).

It is very pleasing to see so many further developing their hockey as well as contributing.  Congratulations to all.
