END of SEASON 2022 – We made it (with a few challenges). But we made it.
With only 3 rounds of “home and away” and finals still in front of us we are rapidly approaching the end of another winter season. It has had its challenges but we have got through without COVID interruptions (or at least mandated embargo’s).
The end of season approaching means that our focus now needs to be put on some really important presentations and awards.
After a break due to COVID (with no awards given in 2021) we will be looking to award the following perpetual awards and trophies. Please see some details below. More can be found on the GHA website. Some of these awards require actions by affiliate Clubs.
Please submit information, as required below by 8th August to allow for discussion and trophies etc to be made ready. Presidents – please consider on behalf of your Club. Individuals please chat with your Club President to submit nomination/s..
John Stephenson Trophy
The John Stephenson Memorial Trophy is presented on an annual basis to a Junior member from the Geelong Hockey Association. The Award has been created to perpetuate the memory of John Stephenson and his love of hockey, along with his unselfish commitment to the interest and benefit of Geelong hockey.
We are calling for nominations for this award. Please forward name and a short history/bio in support.
Hall of Fame
If people devote a great deal of time and effort to the Association or their local hockey club, they can be recognised via life membership. Those who play or umpire and therefore contribute to the game of hockey under the Geelong Hockey Association banner have no such direct recognition from the Association or club.
There shall be set criteria under which clubs nominate players or umpires to the Hall of Fame.
The set criteria for entry are:
- Played or umpired in the local competition for at least 10 years in a sportsman like manner.
- Played or umpired the vast majority of their time with the one club or association in the case of an umpire.
- Represented their association at outside competitions.
Club Life Members are also eligible for their contribution to hockey under the Geelong Hockey Association banner.
Clubs shall nominate candidates and a small number may be inducted at the end of the season. Please provide a short ‘history’ of the nominee/s.
Life Membership
The Geelong Hockey Association is fortunate to have great support from members, both Clubs and individuals, who volunteer their time and enthusiastically contribute to the conduct of hockey in the Geelong region.
Any person who has rendered distinguished and/or special service to the Association may be nominated by the Committee or an Affiliate member.
Nominations are invited for these prestigious awards. Nominations are to be in writing including specific details of service rendered to the Geelong Hockey Association.
Most Improved Umpires Award
Awarded by Competition (Umpires) committee. Nominations not required.
Best and Fairest
No nominations required. The award is given based on votes given by umpires after each match.
Presidents Award
No nominations required.
Information on these awards, if required, can be found on the Hockey Geelong website under the ‘About’ tab.
