50 years for Saints Hockey Club

Congratulations to Geelong Saints Hockey Club on their 50 years Anniversary.

Established in 1974, Geelong Saints Hockey Club emerged as a new entity in the Geelong Hockey Association, originating from the St. Josephs Hockey Club. In that same year, the committee made the strategic decision to transition from St Josephs to Geelong Saints, with the aim of expanding player recruitment opportunities.

Prior to the commencement of the 1974 final series, the name change was formalized, and a new uniform was unveiled. The pivotal goals by Tony Lynch and Peter Kolsch secured the Saints’ victory in the 1974 Grand Final, defeating Winchelsea 2-1 in a replay following an initial 1-1 draw in the first grand final.

In 1975, under the guidance of Ben De Zylva, the club successfully introduced its inaugural women’s team.

Fast forward to 2024, Geelong Saints Hockey Club proudly celebrates its 50th Anniversary. The club continues to flourish, fielding three Men’s teams, two Women’s teams and recently the addition of two junior teams, boasting a total of 112 members.
