The Vic League 1 Men’s Grand Final last Sunday with the Sharks playing Old Xavs was a classic match. We conceded a goal after only 30 seconds and it became an arm wrestle. We converted midway through the match and had to wait until there was only three minutes left for us to get one past their goalkeeper who had a brilliant game.
There was a huge crowd there and we thank all those who travelled there in the club colours. We were certainly the loudest crowd on the day.
The win allows us to be eligible for promotion to Premier League for season 2025. We were relegated at the end of last year and lost many players. It is a credit to new coach Blair Chalmers how he trained the young team to reach such heights. Their play was open and quick and so exciting to watch.
We are excited for next season and bringing the best players in the State to Stead Park.
The Vic League 1 Women’s side bowed out the previous week in a high standard game against Melbourne University. We need to thank Tammy and her team for their efforts throughout the year playing in such a good manner.
The Men’s Reserve Vic League 1 side lost 4-0 in their Grand Final but it was such a good effort to get to that stage. Their season was excellent blooding many young players.
All our Sharks teams have represented us with distinction and we thank them. Through all the busy times in training and preparing for finals the women’s teams still found time to undertake a working bee cleaning Stead Park prior to our local Grand Final. The Sharks men volunteered to clean Stead Park after our Grand Final and we appreciate this effort.
There is so much to look forward to for hockey in our region.
Best wishes
