Thank You for the 2024 Season!

I wish to sincerely thank you for this season and trust you all had a rewarding games and training. It was always a pleasure to be at Stead Park and to see good people go about their business.

On Saturday our Grand Final report for the local competition was well written by Claire Barnes and I thank her for writing and posting such a comprehensive report.

I would like to particularly mention Claire and her tireless work throughout the season and for leading Summer hockey last season and for many years. Her attention to detail and general diligence has ensured our association runs smoothly. Claire received her OAM for services to Hockey and still contributes in all ways.

With the Grand Final last Saturday I wish to thank Reece Shand for providing and setting up the sound system. It was excellent in all types of weather and we certainly had that! I would also like to congratulate Em Shand for her incredible organisation in which nothing was left to chance. We are fortunate to have Em within our association and value her work at all levels.

To the two new Life Members in Joe Crosbie and Em Shand a huge congratulations on this achievement. There is no higher honour one can receive. It was also very touching to have Life Member Terry Moore present his daughter with her award. The first time we have had father and daughter Life Members.

There is much excitement in going forward for hockey in Geelong. More information on the redevelopment shall be released when we learn and are permitted to do so. October will be a busy month for us.

In closing I thank the executive for their hard work throughout the season. In particular I wish to thank Deb O’Shannessey and Nette Williams who have volunteered their Fridays each and every week to purchase the food for the canteen. Also I wish to thank Peter Taylor for purchasing the drinks weekly to be sold in the canteen. We thank you all for supporting the canteen which is our main source of revenue. On the local Grand Final day we took $6,000 in takings. A huge result for the GHA.

I would like to thank Dimpy Kalia for her efforts as canteen manager for the season. Her cooking has won many fans and she has provided a variety of offerings.

I look forward to season 2025.

Best wishes
Graeme Dent
