Congratulations to our 2025 Junior Country Championship teams who represented Hockey Geelong with exceptional skill, outstanding team play and excellent sporting conduct across the JCC weekend.
Our 6 Geelong junior teams included 85 young hockey athletes, led by 6 coaches, 6 team managers and 4 assistants. Across 3 separate venues and 6 hockey pitches, our Geelong representative teams played a total of 39 matches over the 2 days, in a mix of drizzle, heavy rain, bright sunshine and chilly
evenings.
Our teams secured a total of 23 Wins, 6 draws and 10 losses with a total of 64 goals scored. All 6 Geelong teams played in finals for their divisions.
The U14 Boys and U14 Girls each came away from the Essendon Hockey Centre with gold medals from fantastic grand final wins. The boys, having played their pool matches at Essendon and two finals at the State Netball and Hockey Centre at Parkville.
Our U16 Girls and U16 Boys proved themselves against strong opposition and both teams finished with silver medals from their competition at Greensborough.
Our U18 Girls and Boys competed in finals for their respective divisions at Parkville. The boys were unlucky in an elimination final, while the girls were defeated by a single goal to finish with the silver medal. Both teams competed well in a very strong U18 competition.
But the outcomes on the pitch only tell half the story. Our U16 boys, U16 girls and U18 boys teams each welcomed some top-up players from outside the association to assure the viability of those teams, creating new friendships and future regional connections. The JCC provides a great opportunity to play back-to-back games, test new skills and learn strategy from experienced coaches, whilst spending off pitch time developing new friendships and relationships with players and parents from other local clubs. Participation in the JCC is growing across the state with 47 teams entered this year and we are pleased to see the
enthusiasm from our junior Geelong players.
Congratulations on your success and we hope that you are already looking forward to next year.
It takes a large team of volunteers to make this happen, so our thanks go our amazing volunteer team managers, coaches, assistants, association administrators, uniform coordinators, parent helpers for tech bench duty / fruit / lollies, ad-hoc medical and physio support, carpooling families and raucous supporters. Thank you for your professionalism. We couldn’t have done it without you.
A special thanks to the umpires from Geelong, who officiated at the JCC. Charlie Maloney (U14), Damiel Glenn (U18).
We also extend our appreciation to the events team at Hockey Victoria and all the tournament directors, umpires and support staff who work tirelessly to bring such a huge event together to promote junior hockey in regional Victoria.
Well done Geelong. Congratulations on a great 2025 JCC.
