Hockey 5s Fun!

The first Hockey 5’s Come and Try in Geelong took place on Saturday October 11.

16 juniors and 7 seniors attended for the sessions, providing a great morning and lots of fun with this fast paced format of the game.

Thanks to Vice-captain of the inaugural Australian Hockey 5s team, Liam Kerr-Nelson who took the sessions with help from Andrew Smith and Gillian Armstead. Liam kindly volunteered his time to demonstrate, set up drills and games for the players.

Thanks to those that helped set up and pack the 5’s pitch area. The Hockey 5s equipment was on loan from Hockey South West in Warrnambool. Special thanks to John Zele and Chris Armstead who very kindly took John’s truck to Warrnambool to collect the gear and to Nette Williams who helped to unload the equipment when they returned.

Gillian and Chris Armstead commenced putting the boards together and were helped by parents who had brought their children out to try hockey 5’s. It took some time as this was all new to everybody.  There are 60 boards/sections in total, which are all bolted together.  Thanks to the 8 people who packed up at the end, which took about 15 minutes.

A further session for junior players will be held on the 18th October from 10 am to 12 midday. Come along and bring your friends as well.

If there are any senior players interested, please contact Nette Williams,  email [email protected]

The boards are on loan until Christmas so let us know if you would like another opportunity to play this game.
