The pre-season umpire training session was held at Stead Park on 1 March 2026. The session was led by John Larkins, with valued assistance from Pearce Frost, Daniel Glenn and Lyndal Reading.
More than 30 junior and senior umpires attended, all arriving dressed and ready as if the hockey season had already begun. It was fantastic to see many familiar faces returning, along with several newcomers eager to develop their skills and gain experience in hockey umpiring.
The strong turnout made for an impressive and productive session, with participants refining key skills such as whistle technique, recognising infringements, making clear calls, and understanding when to make decisions.
Further sessions are planned, including involvement from the new Geelong Hockey Association Umpire Developer, as the association continues to support and strengthen its umpiring group.
