Premiership Winners

Hall of Fame

If people devote a great deal of time and effort to the Association or their local hockey club, they can be recognised via life membership. Those who play or umpire and therefore contribute to the game of hockey under the Hockey Geelong banner have no such direct recognition from the Association or club.

There shall be set criteria under which clubs can nominate players or umpires to the Hall of Fame. The nominations are considered by the President and other relevant people. The honour board shall be mounted in a prominent area in the club rooms.

There will be an honour board in the Stead Park club rooms that will list those players who have been accepted into the Hockey Geelong Hall of Fame.

Life Members

The Geelong Hockey Association was officially formed in 1989 by a merger between the three organisations which until that point had operated separately to conduct hockey in Geelong.

  • Geelong Junior Hockey Association
  • Geelong and District Men’s Hockey Association
  • Geelong Women’s Hockey Association

At that time, Life Membership of the newly formed Association was awarded to those who had received Life Membership awards for the three previous organisations.

The Geelong Hockey Association is fortunate to have great support from members, past and present, who volunteer their time and enthusiastically contribute to the conduct of hockey in the Geelong region.

Best and Fairest Awards

The Geelong Hockey Association local competition presents a Best and Fairest award at the end of the season for all divisions of the senior competition. The award is voted on by the umpires at the conclusion of each match during the season in a 3, 2, 1 system. The winner is decided on the total number of votes for the season.

John Stephenson Junior Hockey Award

The John Stephenson Memorial Trophy is presented on an annual basis to a Junior member from the Geelong Hockey Association. The Award has been created to perpetuate the memory of John Stephenson and his love of hockey, along with his unselfish commitment to the interest and benefit of Geelong hockey.

Most Improved Umpire

The great game of hockey could not be played without the valuable contribution umpires make. The Most Improved Umpire award is voted on by the Umpires committee and awarded annually. We thank all umpires who are dedicated to fairness and make playing the game possible in Geelong.
