The Geelong Hockey Association finished the 2021 year with 833 members, representing a 3% increase since the last full season in 2019. This is excellent news, and we aim to top those numbers for the 2022 season, with plenty of work planned to recruit new members.
The GHA Membership Pillar group has set the following targets for 2022:
- Hockey Roadshows and Sporting Schools programs conducted in 18 schools during the year (10% increase compared with 2021)
- 2500 students participating in school hockey programs (9% increase)
- Hookin2Hockey programs conducted for 5 clubs
- 100 participants registered for Hookin2Hockey (70% increase)
- 910 members of GHA (10% increase)
2022 Roadshow Schedules
With the support of Hockey Victoria and GHA affiliated clubs and their members, we will again be conducting Roadshows and Sporting Schools programs in local primary schools. We are very pleased to be receiving further support from Viva Energy to assist in the conduct of these programs.
The GHA Roadshows will run as follows, with 13 schools so far interested in participating (a couple to be confirmed):
- Torquay Hockey Club – February 14 to 18 with Bellbrae, Anglesea and St Therese Primary Schools participating.
- Geelong Hockey Club – February 22 & 23 at South Geelong Primary School
- Saints Hockey Club – February 24 & 25 at Lara Lake Primary School
- Newtown Hockey Club – February 21 & 28, March 3 at Chilwell, Fyans Park and Highton Primary Schools.
- Golden Plains Hockey Club – March 1, 2 & 4 at St Mary McKillop, Bannockburn P-12 and Teesdale Primary Schools.
Hockey Victoria have appointed a coach (our own Rachel Moon) to lead the Roadshow sessions, and clubs are asked to supply a volunteer coach to assist for each school. If you would like to help, please let us know. Reimbursement will be available for these sessions.
Interested coaches are asked to attend the Roadshow Coach workshop at Stead Park, from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday February 13. Register here.
