Hockey Geelong Coaching Coup

At the Sharks Presentation evening on Saturday night Andrew Smith was announced as our newly appointed High-Performance Director and Coach of our Futures Academy.

Andrew is an Olympian from the 2008 Beijing Games winning a Bronze medal. He was the Hockey Club Melbourne men’s coach last year winning the premiership in Hobart. Andrew played his hockey at Doncaster and is a local resident, teaching at St Joseph’s College.

Hockey Geelong is thrilled to have Andrew for the next two years in this role that will entail developing the Sharks coaches as well as developing our talented juniors. Andrew will also have a connection with our local clubs.

Andrew is excited with the opportunity ahead and shall be commencing his duties very soon.

Everyone in Hockey Geelong is excited with this appointment and see it as a significant move to increase our hockey numbers and well as develop our talent with the aim of having a permanent presence in Premier League.
