We’re so excited to announce that Geelong Hockey Club has entered a second Division 1 women’s team into the Hockey Geelong winter competition, bringing our Division 1 women’s competition to a total of 5 teams and our total number of Senior Women’s teams to 11!

This expansion represents a significant milestone for hockey in our region and takes us one step closer to our Project 1200 goal of growing from 700 to 1200 players, taking us back to pre-COVID numbers. More teams means more competition, stronger development pathways, and a thriving hockey community.

The timing couldn’t be better – the first round featuring all 5 Division 1 women’s teams will take place just in time for Mother’s Day! What better way to celebrate the amazing women in our hockey community?

A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who made this possible – the clubs who’ve supported growth, the dedicated players committed to developing our sport, our amazing volunteers, and the hardworking committees who’ve put countless hours into building hockey in our region. This milestone belongs to all of you!

Join us as we continue to build and strengthen women’s hockey and sport in Geelong!

It is with great sadness we heard of the passing of Carol Mitchell on the evening of Sunday, 4 th May, 2025. She passed peacefully surrounded by her husband Scott and children Dylan and Stacey.

Carol was a long-time friend of many in hockey circles near and far. We are all at a loss to understand how one so beautiful and nice to all can be taken too soon.

More details shall be released when they come to hand.

Hockey Geelong wishes Scott. Dylan and Stacey, our condolences at this difficult time.

Congratulations to Corio Hockey Club on the club`s re-entry to the Hockey Geelong women`s competition.

Project 1200 is an aspirational program to get the playing numbers of Hockey Geelong back to what they were in 2016.

We all need to do our bit and the results so far this year are looking good.

Current numbers at 30.4.25
141 Junior Females
188 Senior Females
158 Junior Males
195 Senior Males
4 Non-binary
Total 685 Members
129 new members

How can we increase our numbers to achieve 1200?
Present hockey as fun
Contact those who used to play
Connect with a local school(s) and follow-up with how to register
Participate in programs like Hookin2Hockey
Encourage all present players to bring a friend to training
Have social days and advertise in your catchment areas
Value your current members to they do not leave your club and our sport
Provide good coaching.
